PostSubject: Nine years for hit-and-run driver Pauline Morrison   Tue Aug 16, 2011 9:30 pm

A hit-and-run driver who left her victim only able to blink and move one thumb has been jailed for nine years.

Pauline Morrison, 27, drove her car on the wrong side of the road before hitting 29-year-old John Rennie in Glasgow's Royston Road in May 2010.

The High Court in Glasgow heard how she then reversed and drove away.

Morrison was convicted of driving her car at Mr Rennie, striking him to his permanent disfigurement and impairment and to the danger of his life.

The court heard that minutes before the incident, Morrison had been chatting with staff in a nearby shop as she bought groceries for her parents.

She then got in her car and drove on to the wrong side of the road before hitting Mr Rennie and then reversing and driving away.

The incident, which only lasted for about 10 seconds, was captured on CCTV.

In a police statement, Morrison spoke of an continuing feud between members of her family and another family known as the Boyces.

She claimed that she thought the car which was following her was driven by a Boyce.

Morrison told police she panicked and hit Mr Rennie, but the CCTV footage showed her crossing on to the wrong side of the road before ploughing into him.

She was originally charged with attempted murder before the jury deleted this.
